Saskatchewan Harvest Reaches 99% as Final Report Highlights Grain Quality Challenges

Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Agriculture released its final 2026 crop report on November 5, confirming that the provincial harvest is 99% complete. Average crop yields were generally consistent with 10-year averages despite variable growing conditions, including excess moisture, delayed seeding, late-season rainfall and pest activity.
The report estimates spring wheat yields at 51.9 bushels per acre, durum at 44.2 bushels per acre and canola at 38.3 bushels per acre.
However, grain quality remained a concern. Only 25% of durum graded No. 1 Canada Western, compared with the 10-year average of 39%. Malting barley quality was also significantly lower, with just 16% achieving malt grade against a historical average of 31%.
These findings matter for grain producers, processors and buyers because crop quality influences marketability and potential price premiums. The report provides an updated picture of Saskatchewan’s crop supply as farmers finalize marketing decisions and prepare for the 2027 season.
