New RBC Report Highlights Opportunities and Barriers for Canadian Agricultural Exports to Europe

A trade analysis published by RBC on October 28, 2026, identifies opportunities for Canadian agricultural exporters to expand into European markets, particularly in grains, canola, livestock products and fertilizers.
According to the report, Canada exported approximately C$7.32 billion in farm, fish, food and agricultural input products to the European Union in 2025. However, the EU accounted for just over 6% of Canadian agricultural exports. RBC identifies regulatory requirements, including restrictions affecting beef production practices and genetically modified crops, alongside transportation and infrastructure costs, as major barriers to further trade growth.
The report highlights potential opportunities for Canadian canola and potash suppliers as European buyers diversify sourcing. These are opportunities identified by RBC, not confirmed new trade agreements or export commitments. The findings are relevant to Canadian producers, processors and exporters considering market diversification.
