USDA expands regenerative agriculture assistance for Louisiana farmers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on November 6 that Louisiana farmers and ranchers will have seven additional conservation practices available through the fiscal year 2027 Regenerative Pilot Program. The additions include silvopasture, pasture and hay planting, grassed waterways, field borders, tree and shrub establishment, and two types of riparian buffers.

USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service also announced greater enrollment flexibility. Under the Conservation Stewardship Program component, applicants will be required to address identified critical soil and water resource concerns on 75% of their land, rather than 100%.

The changes give Louisiana producers more options for designing conservation projects that fit their operations, particularly where cropland, livestock grazing and water management overlap. USDA says producers can apply through local NRCS service centers. The national program’s funding had been announced previously; the November 6 development is the Louisiana-specific expansion and implementation guidance.
