The CANAMEK DUAL SMART Dual-Receiver Laser Control System is engineered for farmers, contractors, drainage professionals, and machine operators who require accurate and repeatable grade control across wide blades and earthmoving implements.
Unlike a basic single-receiver laser control system, DUAL SMART can monitor two MD305 CAN laser receivers at the same time. One receiver can be installed on each side of the blade, allowing the system to monitor or control the left and right blade positions independently.
The operator can select left-side operation, right-side operation, or simultaneous dual-receiver control. This flexibility makes the system suitable for land levelers, scrapers, drainage machines, trenchers, grading attachments, and machines equipped with separate left and right hydraulic cylinders.
A compatible rotary laser transmitter creates a reference plane across the field or jobsite. Depending on the laser transmitter, this reference plane may be level, single slope, or dual slope.
The two MD305 CAN laser receivers detect the position of the rotating laser beam relative to the cutting edge of the blade. The receiver information is transferred electronically through the system’s CAN network to the DS100 control panel inside the machine cab.
The control panel shows whether each side of the blade is above grade, below grade, or on grade. In Automatic Mode, the system uses this receiver information to send commands to the machine’s compatible hydraulic valves or control interface, automatically raising or lowering the blade to maintain the required finished grade.
The Dual Mode Switch allows the operator to select which side of the system is active. The left receiver can be used independently, the right receiver can be used independently, or both receivers can operate simultaneously.
This capability is particularly useful on wide scrapers, agricultural land levelers, drainage equipment, and blades with separate hydraulic cylinders on the left and right sides.
Real-time information from both laser receivers is displayed on the control panel. The operator can see blade direction, receiver position, selected accuracy, operating mode, and mast position without leaving the cab.
In Manual Mode, the system provides visual grade guidance while the operator remains responsible for controlling the machine hydraulics. The display and LED indicators show whether the blade must move upward or downward to return to the required grade.
No automatic hydraulic output is sent while the selected side is operating in Manual Mode. This allows the system to be used as a visual machine guidance solution when automatic hydraulic control is not required or not available.
In Automatic Mode, the DS100 control panel sends commands to compatible hydraulic solenoid valves or machine interfaces. The system automatically raises or lowers the blade to keep each active laser receiver centered on the laser reference plane.
The operator can temporarily override the automatic operation by using the blade control switch. After the switch is released, the system automatically returns the receiver to the selected on-grade position.
Different grading applications require different levels of accuracy and hydraulic sensitivity. Fine grading normally requires a narrow accuracy band, while rough grading and higher travel speeds may benefit from a wider accuracy band.
The DUAL SMART system provides multiple selectable accuracy settings, allowing the operator to balance finished-grade precision, machine speed, hydraulic stability, and jobsite conditions.
Available accuracy settings are approximately:
A narrow accuracy setting provides more precise grade control but may result in more frequent hydraulic corrections. A wider setting reduces unnecessary blade movement and can provide smoother operation on rough terrain or at higher machine speeds.
Hydraulic response can vary significantly between tractors, scrapers, land levelers, trenchers, and other earthmoving machines. Cylinder size, oil flow, hydraulic pressure, blade weight, valve design, and gravity can all affect how quickly the blade raises or lowers.
The DUAL SMART control panel allows the operator to adjust blade raise and blade lower speeds separately through the system menu. Valve speed values can be adjusted to match the hydraulic characteristics of the machine.
Separate up and down adjustments are especially important because lifting the blade generally requires hydraulic force, while lowering the blade may be assisted by gravity and the weight of the attachment.
The Valve Flow Setting controls the effect of hydraulic output on cylinder movement speed. Correct adjustment helps compensate for gravity, blade weight, hydraulic flow, and differences between raising and lowering movement.
Additional hydraulic response settings allow the system to be configured for Slow, Moderate, Fast, or Maximum operation. These settings help reduce blade oscillation, mechanical shock, overcorrection, and unstable hydraulic movement.
The CANAMEK DUAL SMART system can be configured for different machine hydraulic and control systems.
Supported valve configurations include:
On/Off valves provide direct raise and lower control and are commonly used on agricultural land levelers, scrapers, and basic earthmoving attachments.
Proportional and Danfoss valve configurations may require a compatible machine interface or additional control hardware. These systems allow the hydraulic response to be matched more precisely to the machine and application.
Optional electric actuators may also be used in applications where blade or attachment movement is controlled electrically rather than through a conventional hydraulic solenoid valve.
The exact cables, valve interface, and control components should be selected according to the machine’s electrical system, hydraulic configuration, valve type, and cylinder arrangement.
The DUAL SMART system can be configured for Manual Mast, Electric Mast, or Hydraulic Mast operation.
With a manual mast, the operator physically raises or lowers the laser receiver to establish the required blade elevation or cutting depth.
With the optional PM400 CAN Electric Mast, the receiver height can be adjusted directly from the DS100 control panel inside the cab. This allows the operator to establish a new working depth, relocate the receiver within the laser beam range, or make elevation changes without repeatedly leaving the machine.
The system can support separate left and right electric masts, depending on the selected system configuration. This allows the receiver height on each side of the blade to be adjusted independently.
Hydraulic mast interfaces can also be integrated into compatible systems. The required mast drivers, interface boxes, cables, and hydraulic components depend on the selected machine and package configuration.
When the system is equipped with a compatible electric mast, Survey Mode can be used to measure relative elevation differences across a field, road, or jobsite.
The operator first establishes a reference point. As the machine moves across the area, the electric mast automatically follows the laser reference plane while the control panel displays the elevation difference between the current machine position and the selected reference point.
Survey Mode can help identify:
The Survey Mode function operates through the right side of the control panel and requires the system mast setting to be configured for Electric Mast operation.
The DS100 control panel, MD305 laser receivers, junction box, optional mast drivers, and hydraulic interfaces communicate through a CAN-based network.
This communication architecture allows the control panel to identify and manage separate left and right receivers, mast components, and hydraulic control interfaces.
The system can also display connection errors when communication between the control panel and a receiver is interrupted. This helps the operator identify cable, connector, receiver, or system communication problems during setup and operation.
Dedicated and keyed connectors help reduce the possibility of connecting components to the wrong sockets during installation.
The system supports a wireless remote control that can provide access to essential blade-control functions outside the machine cab.
Depending on the selected package and system configuration, remote functions may include:
The wireless remote can be useful during machine setup, receiver positioning, hydraulic testing, calibration, and operation when the user needs to control the system while standing near the blade or attachment.
The DS100 control system operates from a 9–36 V DC power supply, making it compatible with common 12 V and 24 V agricultural, construction, and earthmoving machines.
The system is designed for an operating temperature range of –4°F to +140°F, equivalent to –20°C to +60°C. This allows it to operate in both cold-weather and high-temperature field conditions.
Electrical protection features include reverse-polarity and short-circuit protection. The system should always be installed using the correct power cable, fuse, connectors, and machine-specific wiring.
The CANAMEK DUAL SMART system can be used for a wide range of agricultural and earthmoving applications, including:
The system is particularly beneficial when two separate blade points must be monitored or controlled simultaneously.
The CANAMEK DUAL SMART system is recommended for machines that require two-point grade monitoring, separate left and right hydraulic control, wide-blade leveling, electric mast adjustment, or relative elevation surveying.
A single-receiver control system may be sufficient for machines that only require one-point elevation control. However, DUAL SMART provides greater control flexibility for wider attachments, dual-cylinder machines, slope-sensitive operations, and professional grading applications.
Before ordering, the system configuration should be matched to the machine’s:
Selecting the correct Core System, Ready System, or Turnkey System configuration ensures that the necessary receivers, control panel, cables, mast components, hydraulic interfaces, valve hardware, and optional accessories are included for the intended machine.
