USDA Awards $51.9 Million to Protect American Farms From Feral Swine

On November 3, 2026, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced $51.9 million in awards for 29 projects across 13 states to combat feral swine populations. The funding forms part of a broader $105 million investment through the Feral Swine Eradication and Control Pilot Program, coordinated by USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). The selected partnerships will support coordinated population control, trapping, landowner training and restoration of affected agricultural land.

Feral swine pose a persistent challenge to crop production, pasture management and natural resources. Their activities can damage crops, disturb soils and degrade water quality, while diseases carried by these animals present additional concerns for livestock operations. The newly awarded projects target affected agricultural regions, particularly across the southern United States. USDA expects the partnerships to strengthen locally coordinated control efforts, although the projects’ effectiveness will depend on implementation and measured outcomes.
