Canada Launches C$1B Food-Link Fund

Canada announced new launch details on October 5 for its C$1 billion Food-Link Fund, a major federal initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s food distribution infrastructure. While the fund itself was included in Canada’s National Food Security Strategy announced in June, the October 5 development establishes the upcoming launch and application process. The first intake will open October 14 and remain open through December 11.
Funding will be divided between initiatives supporting wholesale food terminals and regional food hubs. Eligible infrastructure could include cold storage, transportation, processing and packaging capacity, digital systems and facility improvements. For Canadian farmers and food businesses, the program is intended to improve connections between producers and buyers and increase access to storage, processing and distribution infrastructure. The government says the investments are also intended to strengthen competition and resilience within Canada’s domestic food supply chain.
