Descripción

The Nedo PRIMUS 3 H2N Dual Slope Rotary Laser Transmitter establishes a controlled elevation reference for leveling, grading and construction work. This Class 3R version supports horizontal operation and slopes in one or two axes, allowing operators to enter the required X/Y grades and work from a continuously monitored laser plane.

The included COMMANDER 3 combines a digital laser receiver with a radio remote. It provides height-deviation readings, transmitter controls and access to alignment functions from the receiving location. AutoTarget, FindX and PlaneLock support axis setup and sustained slope work, while motor-powered leveling and temperature compensation help maintain the reference during operation.

For agricultural land leveling, the transmitter can provide the laser plane used by a compatible machine receiver and control system. In construction, COMMANDER 3 supports direct elevation checks for grading, excavation, concrete placement, foundations and landscaping. Automatic hydraulic blade control requires a separate machine-control installation.

Developed and manufactured by Nedo in Dornstetten, Germany, the PRIMUS 3 H2N is supplied with COMMANDER 3, an aluminum rod clamp, Quick-Fix 2 tripod attachment, a rechargeable battery, charger and transport case.

Complete Laser Reference and Grade-Control Workflow

  1. Mount and establish the reference. Secure the transmitter on suitable support using its threaded connection or Quick-Fix 2 attachment, then allow motor-powered leveling.
  2. Align the working axes. Use AutoTarget with COMMANDER 3 to align the Y-axis. FindX helps locate the corresponding X-axis and establish right-angle directions.
  3. Enter the required grade. Select horizontal operation or set the X/Y percentages for a single-slope or dual-slope reference.
  4. Choose the rotation speed. Select 600, 900 or 1,200 rpm to suit the receiving equipment and application.
  5. Check elevations or guide a machine. Read height deviations on COMMANDER 3, or use a compatible machine receiver and control system to follow the reference during grading.
  6. Monitor the laser plane. Tilt control, automatic re-leveling and TemperatureControl support reference stability. For the appropriate single-axis task, PlaneLock uses COMMANDER 3 to monitor the selected slope.

The transmitter defines the reference. The receiving equipment determines whether that reference is used for manual elevation checks, operator guidance or automatic machine control.

Equipment for the Intended Application

A suitable tripod and measuring rod are selected separately. For automatic grading, add the compatible machine receiver, controller, mounting arrangement and hydraulic interface required by the machine.

CANAMEK offers the Gold-CAN laser control system y Dual Smart laser control system for compatible machine installations. These control systems are separate from the standalone Nedo transmitter package.

Independent X/Y Slope Settings

The PRIMUS 3 H2N accepts positive or negative slope settings up to ±15% in each axis. Operators can establish a horizontal plane, a continuous fall in one direction, or a reference with slopes in both directions.

Grade values are entered as percentages to three decimal places. The entered slope values remain stored after switch-off, allowing the settings to be retained between operating sessions. The current setup and axis alignment must still correspond to the job being performed.

The slope function has a stated accuracy of ±0.015%. This rating describes the transmitter’s slope function; the finished surface also depends on the receiving equipment, setup, machine and execution of the grading work.

Automatic Leveling, Tilt Monitoring and TemperatureControl

Motor-powered leveling operates over an approximate ±8.5° self-leveling range. The stated leveling accuracy is ±0.020 in at 32.81 ft / ±0.5 mm at 10 m.

In slope mode, the transmitter monitors the laser plane and re-levels when required. TemperatureControl monitors internal temperature and compensates for changes that could affect the slope reference during a working day.

Automatic Level Control stops the laser following a heavy jolt, helping prevent continued work from an unnoticed disturbed reference. The H2N also provides three selectable shock-guard sensitivity levels. After a significant disturbance, check the setup and reference before continuing.

These functions address different causes of reference error: initial leveling, changes during slope operation, temperature variation and physical movement of the instrument.

AutoTarget for Y-Axis Alignment

The direction of the slope axes matters when a surface must fall toward a particular outlet or follow a planned grading line. AutoTarget uses COMMANDER 3 as the target and automatically aligns the transmitter’s Y-slope axis with that location.

This changes the orientation of the laser’s coordinate system and reduces the need to align the Y-axis using a separate optical sight. It is particularly relevant to fine grading and dual-slope work where an incorrectly oriented axis would change the intended surface geometry.

FindX and Right-Angle Layout

The X and Y axes remain perpendicular, so aligning the Y-axis also establishes the direction of the X-axis. FindX helps the operator locate that direction in the field.

Place COMMANDER 3 near the expected X-axis position and activate FindX. Direction arrows and angle information guide the operator to the axis location. The same function supports transferring right-angle directions for the work layout.

PlaneLock X/Y for Sustained Slope Work

PlaneLock uses COMMANDER 3 to monitor the selected laser plane during precision slope work. In PlaneLock X or PlaneLock Y, the chosen axis is maintained at the set inclination while the other axis is kept horizontal.

This receiver-based reference is useful for sustained single-axis slope work where environmental effects on the transmitter’s internal slope sensors would otherwise influence the result. The operator selects the relevant axis and brings COMMANDER 3 into the plane before activating the function.

Normal dual-slope operation provides the independent X/Y grade settings. PlaneLock X/Y identifies the available axis selections for the receiver-monitored mode.

COMMANDER 3 Receiver and Radio Remote

COMMANDER 3 places elevation measurement and transmitter operation in the same handheld module. Its large graphic display shows transmitter status and the height difference between the detected beam and the receiver’s reference line.

Two additional displays on the reception side are angled for viewing from either side. This arrangement allows the operator to read the receiver without standing directly in the beam path. A reception-side LED display provides another visible indication.

The receiver supports five selectable accuracy settings:

  • ±0.020 in / ±0.5 mm.
  • ±0.039 in / ±1 mm.
  • ±0.079 in / ±2 mm.
  • ±0.157 in / ±4 mm.
  • ±0.315 in / ±8 mm.

Its detection field is 4.72 in / 120 mm long. Readout options include millimeter height differences, directional arrows and Real Laser View, which represents the detected beam position as a line on the display. These receiver settings are separate from the transmitter’s leveling and slope accuracy ratings.

The radio remote operates up to 492 ft / 150 m. Matching controls and display layouts on the transmitter and COMMANDER 3 provide a consistent interface at both positions.

Working Diameter and Receiving Equipment

The working distance depends on the receiver used. CANAMEK lists a nominal working diameter of 2,700 ft / 800 m with CANAMEK receivers. Nedo specifies an approximate diameter of 2,297 ft / 700 m with COMMANDER 3.

These are optical working diameters across the laser’s coverage area. The radio remote’s separate limit is up to 492 ft / 150 m between the transmitter and COMMANDER 3.

Select the receiver for the application and maintain a clear beam path. A machine-control installation also needs compatible control equipment and hydraulic connections; the transmitter’s coverage specification does not establish a finished-surface accuracy guarantee.

Rotation Speed, IonicDrive and SegmentControl

The H2N provides 600, 900 and 1,200 rpm rotation settings. Nedo’s IonicDrive direct-drive system supplies the rotor motion, including the higher rotation rate used for suitable 2D machine-control applications.

SegmentControl allows individual beam segments to be disabled. COMMANDER 3 displays the masked segments, helping the operator direct the active reference toward the intended work area and limit interference with other rotary lasers on the site.

Receiving equipment must operate within an active segment. Choose the rotation speed and masking arrangement to suit the job and the receiving equipment.

Power, Mounting and Field Protection

The transmitter uses a rechargeable Li-ion SmartPower battery and provides up to 40 hours of operation. It can be charged through the instrument’s charging socket without removing the battery, and operation while charging is supported.

COMMANDER 3 uses its own supply of two 1.5 V AA cells; Nedo also lists NiMH rechargeable cells for the module. It includes automatic shut-off and a level for receiver alignment.

The transmitter and COMMANDER 3 are rated IP67. A die-cast aluminum rotor guard, protective glass and internal shock protection help protect the transmitter’s optics and sensors during field handling.

Quick-Fix 2 uses a lever-operated attachment for setting up or removing the laser from a suitable tripod. A standard 5/8 in thread, equivalent to a nominal diameter of 15.875 mm, is also provided. The MagFix fastener connects COMMANDER 3 to its aluminum rod clamp without tools.

Maintain Planned Grades for Drainage and Construction

A controlled fall requires both the correct slope value and the correct direction. Independent grade settings establish the required plane, while AutoTarget and FindX help align that plane with the job layout.

In agricultural work, the reference can support field leveling and planned surface drainage when paired with suitable receiving and machine-control equipment. Drainage results depend on the surface design, soil, outlets and the completed earthwork.

For construction operators, the same reference supports elevation checks through grading, excavation and foundation work. COMMANDER 3 provides a direct measurement at the checking location, while the radio controls allow transmitter adjustments within communication range.

Manufacturer Warranty, Calibration and CANAMEK Support

Nedo provides a three-year manufacturer warranty for the PRIMUS 3 transmitter with a calibration package. During that warranty period, the package includes one free check and adjustment per year.

COMMANDER 3 has a separate one-year manufacturer warranty. The transmitter’s three-year term should therefore be distinguished from the receiver/remote’s coverage.

The PRIMUS 3 is developed and manufactured in Dornstetten in Germany’s Black Forest. CANAMEK provides after-sales support seven days a week and can assist with product configuration and service arrangements under the applicable manufacturer terms.

Solutions for Agricultural and Construction Elevation Control

The PRIMUS 3 H2N serves as a reference source for agricultural leveling and compatible 2D machine control, as well as a measurement system for construction teams using COMMANDER 3.

Its main applications include level and sloped grading, surface drainage preparation, excavation depth checks, concrete placement, foundations, footings, landscaping and elevation transfer. Equipment selection should follow the required working range, reference plane and measurement or machine-control workflow.
